Walking with the wise
You should walk with the wise.
It’s better than hanging around fools.
Why?
It’s simple: You become wise (if you aren’t already) or wiser (if you are already wise).
There is a more compelling reason though and it’s expressed in the Scripture below:
He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.
If you hang around the not-so-wise, you put your future in danger.
You may be labouring but never have anything worthwhile to show.
And that’s not wise.
You certainly don’t want that.
It would help if you didn’t accept it because you have a better choice, one that will serve you well.

What it means to walk with the wise
The ‘wise’ are action-oriented in nature.
They learn and act on what they learn.
I love the way Jesus expressed them in the parable of the wise and foolish builders.
Listen to this:
Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: [25] and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
The wise are driven by instructions received from the right sources.
They always do the right thing with such instructions.
They never learn for the sake of learning.
They aren’t held down by the knowing-doing gap: That is, they aren’t people who know and never act.
These are the kinds of people you are counseled to walk with.
So, if you want to identify them, you have a good guide here.
This guide is important because most people would ask, ‘How do you identify who is wise?’
So this mistake with some is not being able to distinguish the wise from the foolish.
Now you know that they are people who place great value on gaining knowledge and understanding to do something concrete with it.
They always have proof to show that they have truly learned.
Another way to walk with the wise
All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them, [35] that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world."
The wise aren’t wise because of who they are but because of what they do.
They acquire knowledge and apply it, to prove and realize its promise.
Jesus said, “Whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them” is likened to the wise.
It means that wherever you access the sayings of the wise and go ahead to do them, it is likened to walking with the wise.
When you listen to what a wise person says and you do them, you are walking with the wise.
When you read what the wise person has written and you do them, you are also walking with the wise.
So you don’t have to physically hang around the wise to walk with them.
While it is a good option, you can also walk with the wise by seeking to access the “sayings of the wise” and doing them!
This is a neglected aspect of the options where have to take advantage of the counsel given to walk with the wise.
When you read what the wise person has written and you do them, you are also walking with the wise.
So, there is more to just listening to tapes or reading books.
As you do so, you are keeping company with the sources of those “sayings” though they aren’t with you physically.
If their sayings aren’t those of the wise, you are invariably keeping company with the not-so-wise.
Even if you act on what they say, you won’t benefit from it.
Your life will stray from the right path.
The same thing will happen if the “sayings” are indeed those of the wise, but you aren’t doing them.
Remember that the benefit you derive from walking with the wise is acting on what you learn from them just as they act on what they learned from other sources.
Now, let me show you the most potent way of walking with the wise.
The best way to walk with the wise
Yes, there is what I consider the best way to walk with the wise.
It is to seek for the ‘sayings of God’ and constantly do them.
The best example to follow in this regard is Jesus.
He paid attention to only what God said and acted based on and in line with it.
He did nothing because He wanted to.
I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
This showed clearly in Matthew 4:4-8 when He consistently recalled what was written in His response to the challenges posed by the enemy.
This brings to mind the parables that He was known for telling in every situation and at every turn.
Those parables represent the “sayings of the wise.”
We know that He spoke them in line with what He heard and learned from His Father.
They are the ways of the kingdom.
They were spoken to make the discerning wise.
Whoever will learn them, unveil their underlying secrets, mysteries, and principles, and practice them as a lifestyle will truly walk with the wise.
To my surprise, however, over 9 in every 10 people I have spoken to, have never intentionally sought to learn from these parables.
They do not have access to what is hidden in the parables and certainly do not live by them.
Can you imagine how much they are missing, despite being believers?

It’s time to get our lives back on track, permanently.
It’s time to truly walk not just with the wise, but with the wisest person who ever lived.
It’s time to pay attention to the ways of the kingdom, learn them, and live purposefully by them.
Embracing that as a lifestyle will get your life on the right track, permanently.
